Inside Uber’s Growing Travel Ecosystem

Uber has announced a major expansion of its platform with the launch of hotel booking directly inside the Uber app for customers in the United States. The feature was introduced during the company’s annual Go-Get event in New York City and marks another step in Uber’s effort to broaden its services beyond transportation and food delivery.

At launch, users can access more than 700,000 hotels worldwide through a partnership with Expedia Group. Uber also confirmed that vacation rental inventory from Vrbo will be integrated later this year. To encourage adoption, the company said Uber One subscribers will receive discounts of up to 20% on selected hotels and earn 10% back in Uber Credits on bookings.

Uber also introduced several additional travel-focused features. One of them is travel mode, which provides users with destination-related information such as tourist attractions, local recommendations, and travel guidance. The feature is also extending into Uber Eats through a new “room service” hub that offers commonly forgotten travel items. Uber said the hub will later support restaurant recommendations and restaurant reservations through OpenTable.

Another new feature, called “Eats for the Way,” allows Uber Black riders to pre-order snacks or drinks that will be waiting in the vehicle upon pickup. The company also emphasized the role of agentic AI tools in accelerating development. According to Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga, technologies like Cursor significantly reduced the time needed to develop and launch new products. Uber says features that previously required at least a year of development can now be completed in roughly half the time.
